How Do You Catch A Bass Every Few Casts On A Ledge?

Where Do You Find the Bass on a Ledge? What Lure Should You Use?

How do you define and ledge and locate the best section to fish? Which lures should you use? Gene answers these questions in this instructive video made on Pickwick Lake. Gene shows his plastic crawler on a Carolina rig. He preferred a watermelon candy lure for this outing. This was interesting to me because my fishing buddy in North Carolina used the Carolina rig on Lake Norman. He has a lot of success nursing the bass out of shallow reeds along the edge of the lake or around rock piles.

Gene shows how to locate a ridge with his contour defining depth finder first. He calls the approach ledge finding 101 so it is easy to follow him as he explains how to mark a ledge that drops off to 16 to 24 feet on the bottom. He spends some time showing what the contours mean and where he would expect to find bass along the ledge. Is that at the bottom of the ledge or partially up the ledge? Gene explains in detail. The next step was to explore places along the ledge to see where bass were hitting.

How many bass did Gene catch in the two hours before he started making the video? You will be astounded! You might not believe it until you watch Gene start casting after he settles above the section of ledge where he located the base. It takes three or four casts to catch the first bass as he explains how to match the mood of the bass. Then just a few casts later he nails a hard-hitting bigger bass. This one is about 2.5 lbs.
